Ottawa has many neighborhoods and many prices in its wide range of housing options. Neighborhoods in the suburbs have semi-detached and single family homes. There are also quite a few townhouse developments in this area.

 

In the more central Ottawa neighborhoods, there is an abundance of smaller apartment buildings. Usually these are one or two floors, and many with private entrances to your unit and a parking space included in the rent. There are also single family and semi-detached homes. 

 

The downtown area has low rise apartments (and condos) and high rise apartments. These are all centrally located and near transportation. These are also closer to shopping, medical services, theatres and restaurants. These high-rise buildings often have parking garages (not that you really need a car in the city), swimming pools (indoor) and health clubs on the premises. Some buildings have door attendants. Of course, all of these premiums come at a premium price but many people find the luxury and convenience worth it.

 

There are many large buildings with many units of all sizes available to rent in the area. There is also a range of rental prices and types of apartments available. Studios in the heart of the city in a high-rise building can go for as low as $650.00 a month to a high of about $825.00 a month. One bedrooms in the same type of high rise building or one of the few complexes available (one or two floor buildings) range from $825.00 to about $1,000.00 a month. Two bedrooms go for more at about a low of $995.00 to a high of about $1,500.00. Three and four bedrooms are much harder to come by and start at about $1,500 a month and can go substantially higher. 

 

Of course the closer you live to downtown Ottawa the higher your rent will be. If you live in a building with a large amount of amenities, your rent is also apt to be higher. Some buildings will make you pay extra for a parking space or to use the health club.
